Saint Emma

"Emma was married to King Ludwig the German, grandson of Charlemagne, and mother of seven children. She generously adorned and expanded churches and monasteries. Every year on the day of the Queen’s death, young maidens in bare feet would distribute meat and bread because even Queen Emma did this charitable service in her bare feet.
